The manner in which researchers should conduct their analyses has been set out in the standard and described above, but the opportunity now exists for new research on plastic limit loads, linear bifurcation loads, elastic imperfection sensitivity studies, snap-though buckling studies and local loading investigations to all produce vital pieces of the complete story and to be adopted into revisions of the standard in producing new values for the controlling parameters a, p, 77 and JQ of the shell buckling capacity curve.

DIFFICULTIES IN THE STRUCTURE AND FORMAT OF THE BUCKLING CALCULATION Despite the care and clarity of thought that has been put into devising the framework described above, there remain a number of difficulties that need resolution. Some of these have been brought out in the above discussion. However, three are outlined here as sources of particular difficulty. Changing reference resistances with small loading changes First, there is the sensitivity, in some situations, of the reference resistances R^r and Rpi to small changes in the loading conditions.
