In fact, if the node remains wake-up state when it does not need to join to active period, it must consume the unnecessary energy. If the node has data to send to the coordinator, it joins to the active period as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 shows that the node can send its data to the coordinator any time in active period while Figure 4 shows that the node does not have the data to send or receive to/from the coordinator. Fig. 5. Wake-up mode and sleep mode of superframe 4 Performance Analyses We assume that the length of the active portion is constant as shown in Figure 2.
2. For inbound traffic where a private peer (acting as a server) is waiting for incoming connections, SPF should co-work with out-of-band signaling protocols such as Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) or Application-Level Gateway (ALG) to determine in advance the source IP of all expected incoming connections and assign a wildcard value to any not-yet-know source port. 1 Conflict Resolution for Outbound Traffic Since client applications often randomly select an unreserved local port to be used as an instance of the service, SPF takes two different actions for outbound traffic.

As SPF binds more than one connection per port, it not only increases the degree of port multiplexing but also increases the scalability of NAT to serve more connections. The wildcard design of SPF helps an AP to permit multiple servers listening on the same port number, which is very beneficial to clients using private addresses. In addition, SPF also allows an AP (with sufficient computation power and memory capacity) to handle more than 65,535 connections.
