4 Reduction of the n-Dimensional Space The multidimensional matrixes to which we made reference under Sect. 3, which were in charge of showing the relations among the different elements that constitute a domain, need to be interpreted. This is necessary because, due to their informative wealth, the human mind requires much effort and energy to decipher such matrixes, when this is in fact possible. In most cases it will be necessary to resort to methods that allow for the transformation of one n-dimensional space into another having two or three dimensions.

The greater the number of cocitations, the stronger that relationship. Since its appearance (White and Griffith, 1981b; White and Griffith, 1981a; White and Griffith, 1982), Author Cocitation Analysis (ACA) has been characterized by frequent use in the building of two-dimensional representations. In these displays, cocitations automatically group materials, methodologies, and social affinities, as they are perceived by the citing parties. The matrixes that gather the recounts of cocitation over time, with values that vary from zero to perhaps thousands, can be the basis of a domain visualization (White, 2003).

It is a tool in that it permits the construction of bibliometric maps, and it is a method because it facilitates domain analysis by showing in graphic form the structure and relationships of the elements represented in the domain. These maps reflect the bulk of opinions and viewpoints of the persons who make up the given community. Scientography is also a holistic method for another reason: because it allows the domain to be analyzed in light of the community discourse; and it is an objective method because through it we are able to analyze the nonsubjective structure, formed by the intellectual consensus of the component relations among its elements.
